Physical Examinations

How should I prepare for my annual physical?

You usually don’t need to do anything special to prepare for a routine exam. If you’re a first-time patient, make sure you know — or write down — your family’s medical history. Aside from gathering that information, Dr. Peter Simek needs an update on your personal health.

He’ll need to know which medications you’re taking, so make a list of both prescription medications, as well as over-the-counter medications and supplements, before your appointment. When scheduling your physical examination, ask if you need to fast. If Dr. Simek needs to draw blood or collect a urine sample, you may need to fast for several hours before your visit.

One thing that’s helpful for most patients coming in for a physical exam is to write down a list of questions for Dr. Simek. Often times, you have something you’re concerned about, but then completely forget about it when you have a doctor sitting right in front of you. The day before you head in for your appointment, write down anything that you wish to discuss.

Can I schedule a well-woman exam?

Yes. The staff at Plantation Medical Clinic can assist you in scheduling your annual Pap smear with one of our Advanced Practice Clinicians. During your annual physical, in addition to checking your health, you might need a Pap smear.

Dr. Peter Simek, or one of the advanced practice clinicians, can also conduct a breast exam and go over your birth control options with you.

Do I really need an exam every year?

You want to see a physician who you’re comfortable with, just in case you do get sick or need something in a hurry. Even if you’re in tip-top shape, Dr. Peter Simek will probably want to see you at least once a year. He’ll check your vital signs during your physical, in addition to assessing your vital organs and their function. By getting checked out regularly, Dr. Simek can compare your medical health year after year and watch for signs of new or developing health conditions.

Additional Examinations Offered:
